Nebraska football releases future conference schedules
Nebraska football will be playing Iowa on Black Friday again among other matchups.
On the same day, the Nebraska basketball team released its full schedule for the 2018-19 season, the Nebraska football team divulged who it will be playing in the Big Ten in coming seasons.
With the release of the future conference schedules, a real picture comes into focus on just what Scott Frost and his crew is going to be facing in 2022 and beyond. Speaking of 2022 and beyond, it turns out that the Black Friday game against Iowa is officially back, at least for four years.
2022 will open with a non-conference schedule against North Dakota and Georgia Southern at home. On September 17 the Huskers will have the big non-conference tilt against Oklahoma.

The conference slate starts week four at Rutgers, vs Indiana, at Northwestern, at Michigan, vs Minnesota, at Wisconsin, versus Purdue, versus Illinois and finishes at Iowa. If nothing else, it appears this Big Ten schedule is a little more balanced when talking about the out of division battles. At least when talking about where the programs are now.
The 2023 schedule opens at Minnesota and then has the Huskers heading to Colorado. The Cornhuskers will then be looking for a little revenge for last season at home against Northern Illinois.
The rest of the 2023 Big Ten schedule is versus Northwestern, at Illinois, versus Michigan, versus Wisconsin, at Purdue, versus Maryland, at Michigan State, and finishes in Lincoln against Iowa. There is one more non-conference game that still needs to be scheduled for that season.
In 2024, the Huskers will take on Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio State, Minnesota, and Purdue in Lincoln. They will travel to Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, and Northwestern. In other words, it’s another killer conference schedule.
Nebraska once again has an opening in the non-conference slate after South Dakota State and Colorado. With that Big Ten schedule, the Huskers can be excused from having an FCS school on tap.
2025 opens the year at Illinois, then has a non-conference game at Cincinnati and two open spots. The Big Ten home slate is Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Rutgers, and Iowa. The road schedule after Illinois is Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota.
Obviously, seven years is a long time. The balance of power could shift quite a bit. Based on today’s standard, 2025 looks like one heck of a chance for the Nebraska football team to have a relatively easy path to the conference title game. Of course, we all hope it’s a return visit.
