More bad news for Nebraska basketball.

It’s been a bad month for Nebraska basketball. Not only did the team lose a top assistant, but they also lost their top commit.

With Kenya Hunter out the door, Xavier Johnson followed close behind. The Huskers officially released the guard after he asked to look elsewhere.

While Johnson had talked about the fact that he was still considering the Cornhuskers, it looks like he really does have eyes for someone else. On Monday, Rivals reported that Johnson was visiting Pitt.

Does that mean that Johnson is out the door? No, no it does not.

More from Nebraska Basketball

There is still plenty of time for head coach Tim Miles to repair whatever damage has been done. The big problem is that it doesn’t appear the pair have a really strong relationship.

Hunter was the lead recruiter for Johnson. The speed with which the high school star left when Hunter was gone could lead you to believe that he doesn’t really know or trust Miles.

That’s not good news for those who are hoping they can bring Johnson back. The Huskers also look as though they are looking for other options.

Tomorrow, Robert Morris transfer guard Dachon Burke is going to be in town. It’s possible they might be looking to bring him in even if Johnson was on board, but their interest seems to coincide with the departure.

Perhaps the other piece of good news is that Pittsburgh is a bit of a mess right now. The Panthers just fired their head coach after the season.

Pitt went 8-24 last season. That included a 0-18 record in the ACC.

Xavier Johnson wouldn’t be stepping into a perfect situation if he joined the Nebraska basketball team but it seems like it would be a more stable situation than what is going on with the Pitt basketball team right now.
