Nebraska basketball: 2018 conference pairings announced
Nebraska basketball’s conference schedule isn’t an easy one.
On Thursday afternoon, the Nebraska basketball team found out who they will be matching up within the Big Ten for the 2018-19 season. Those pairings appear to make up a pretty tough conference run.
While we don’t yet know the dates of the games, or the sequence of those contests, we do know who the Cornhuskers are going to be facing only once, and who they will be playing home and away contests against.
When looking at the double matchups, the 2018-19 season is going to be a toughy. The Nebrasketball team will be facing off twice against Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan State and Penn State.
The Huskers played Iowa, Illinois, Penn State and Minnesota twice this past season. Rutgers is essentially replaced by Purdue, Michigan State replaces Wisconsin and Maryland is an additional home and away matchup.

That’s a definite step up in terms of double opponents from the previous season. When talking about teams that that Huskers will only see in Lincoln, it’s Northwestern, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
One-off games on the road for next season will be Michigan, Indiana and Rutgers. Just glancing at next year’s schedule and this one the degree of difficulty appears to have been turned up a notch.
This news comes at the same time that the release of Xavier Johnson from his LOI has become official. The Nebraska basketball team stands to have four starters return, should Roby, Copeland and Palmer all decide not to pursue professional basketball dreams.
There was a lot of talk that the Cornhuskers benefitted from a down Big Ten conference and a luck of the draw schedule. It seems at least on paper, that should the Huskers manage to finish in the top half of the conference again, they will have earned it for sure.
