The Nebraska basketball team had been recruiting Antun Maricevic pretty hard. It turns out they lost the 6-10 JUCO player to a smaller surprise school.

If there is one thing that the Nebraska basketball team needs badly next year and moving forward, it’s solid big men. Those big men that can defend down load and can also score from the lane.

Having known that already, head coach Tim Miles had been recruiting a JUCO big man by the name of Antun Maricevic but he found out this weekend that the player has chosen another school.

Maricevic announced a rather surprising pick for his new school. The South Florida Bulls are the proud recipients of one of the best players in the Junior College ranks this season.

The last season, Maricevic averaged 15.5 points per game and hauled down 7.8 rebounds per game. Perhaps the thing that makes him most interesting is that the big man is also someone who is pretty good when it comes to distributing to his teammates.

Maricevic averaged 1.4 assists per game in addition to his other statistics. A center, or power forward is generally not someone you are going to see someone dishing the ball off with that level of assists.

The South Florida Bulls are a surprise team for a couple of reasons. There is of course, the fact that they are not a Power Five conference team. There is also the fact that the Bulls were a bad team last team.

USF went 10-22 this past season. Compare that to the Cornhuskers who were pretty close to making the NCAA tournament.

Getting a big man has been a problem for Tim Miles since he arrived in Lincoln. He’s gotten a few over the last couple of years, but he has yet to land one that has really been a force in the middle. The Nebraska basketball program is still on the lookout for that kind of player.
