The Nebraska basketball team missed the NCAA tournament this year but it’s been named as a squad that could fill the shoes of a Sweet 16 team next year.
Despite a poor finish to the year, there were plenty who thought the Nebraska basketball team’s resume was good enough to make the Big Dance this season.
While it appears the Cornhuskers weren’t as close to getting in as some thought they were before selection Sunday, there are some who think they are moving in the right direction. Huskers Online recently put together a list of teams they think could step into the shoes of Sweet 16 teams from this year.
The Huskers have been mentioned as a team that could do the same kind of thing that Clemson did this season. Like the Cornhuskers, the Tigers are not a team that has had a ton of success on the basketball court.

Also, like the Huskers, the Tigers are a school that is thought of for its football exploits more than it’s basketball adventures. And like the Tigers, the Cornhuskers look like they are on the way up.
As Huskers Online pointed out, Clemson is in the Sweet 16 for the first time in 21 years. Nebraska has never been in the Sweet 16.
Nebraska has never won an NCAA tournament game. That doesn’t mean they can’t win one next year.
Tim Miles seems to have the team pointed in the right direction. James Palmer Jr and Isaac Copeland should both be back. They were the reason the team got as close to the tournament as it did this year.
The publication points out that Isaiah Roby is a clone of Clemson’s Donte Grantham and Jordy Tshimanga is the same kind of player as the Tigers’ Elijah Thomas.

We won’t be able to see if the Nebraska basketball program can make another run at the tournament until next season. It’s nice to see plenty of people convinced they can indeed make that kind of run until then.
