Former Nebraska basketball player Andrew White is headed to the Atlanta Hawks.

Former Nebraska basketball star Andrew White is finally going to live his dream. White reportedly received the call at his G League team and is headed for the Atlanta Hawks.

Husker fans likely have mixed emotions on the Andrew White saga and this news. On the one hand, it’s hard to name even a dozen former Cornhuskers who have had a real NBA career.

On the other hand, it’s hard for Nebrasketball fans to call Andrew White one of theirs considering he played four years in college basketball on three different teams. White transferred to Nebraska after starting his NCAA career with the Kansas Jayhawks.

After one personally successful season that didn’t go the way many hoped for the Huskers’ team, White announced he was transferring again. For his final college basketball season, he landed at Syracuse, where he again put up very good numbers for a team that struggled as a whole.

White has always been a special kind of scorer. During his one season at Nebraska, he averaged 16.6 points while also bringing down 5.9 rebounds. Most impressively, he shot 41 percent from beyond the three-point arc.

He put up even better offensive numbers when he transferred to Syracuse. In his one season for the Orangemen, he averaged 18.5 points per game and again shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc.

After finishing his college career, White signed a free agent contract with the Boston Celtics. He started this season with the Celts’ G League team where he averaged 15.8 points per game.

He then signed with the Atlanta Hawks G League team and continued scoring. White averaged 15 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 10 games before getting the call to the NBA.

While some Husker fans might be conflicted about calling Andrew White one of their own, his getting into the NBA does help the Cornhusker brand. According to Basketball Reference, a grand total of 11 former Nebraska basketball players have ever put in minutes on an NBA or ABA team.
