The Nebraska basketball team received four AP Top 25 votes in this weeks ballot. Those were the first votes the team received since the beginning of the 2014 season.

The Nebraska basketball team has been getting a ton of positive attention in the last few weeks. The team has been popping up on more and more bubble watches and several national analysts have said the Huskers could be a tough out in March.

That national attention extended to possibly getting into the AP Top 25 should they continue winning. This week, the Cornhuskers got their first AP votes in about four years.

While the Huskers didn’t really come all that close to being ranked, their four votes were an accomplishment enough, when you consider the moribund status of this program in the last few decades.

The last time Nebraska got any AP poll votes was at the beginning of the 2014-15 season. That was the year the Huskers had finished the regular season strong and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in quite some time.

Pollsters felt that the team had enough talent to make a real run and possibly being a Cornhusker themed dynasty. Instead of a repeat performance, the team bottomed out, went 13-18 on the year and began a three-year run of losing seasons.

It appears the Cornhuskers are pulling out of that nose dive. The team isn’t really sniffing the Top 25 yet. Those four votes put them unofficially as the 37th ranked team and still 72 votes behind 25th ranked Miami.

Nebraska basketball fans can take a bit of pride in those four votes though. AP Pollsters put the Huskers ahead of Florida (3), Houston (3), TCU (3) and Oklahoma State (2). If the Cornhuskers can go 2-0 this week, one has to wonder just how much closer they can creep to getting ranked.
