The Nebraska basketball team is still having problems late in games.

Scoring droughts have been an issue for the Nebraska basketball team longer than anyone can remember. Usually, this was because the team didn’t have the talent to compete with the big boys.

If there’s one thing we’ve seen this year, it’s that the Cornhuskers do have the talent to hang.

So why did Nebraska score two points in the final 4:38 of the game against Ohio State? Why did they need a last-second shot to beat Illinois?

Why couldn’t they close out the game against Penn State? Even against Wisconsin, a game that the Huskers led by double digits several times, they stumbled down the stretch.

To be fair, the Huskers had a furious rally against the Nittany Lions to even have a chance to close it out. They trailed most of the game and were down 13 relatively late.

That means this isn’t about the team lacking the horses. It’s not about the team giving up the fight.

The Cornhuskers want to win. It just feels like they don’t really know how to do it.

Is that because of coaching? Is it because of the mental makeup? A little bit of both?

The Nebraska basketball team has to find a way to close out close games. The good news is, the Huskers won’t face another Top 25 team this season. The bad news is, the struggles we saw on display against Ohio State weren’t new. They need to be addressed and fixed before too much longer if they want to make the NCAA Tournament.
