The Nebraska basketball team will take on a Northwestern team that has the same kind of questions, talent on Tuesday.

The real Nebraska basketball season tips off on Tuesday. Sitting at 10 wins overall and 1-1 in conference, the Huskers have dreams of an NCAA tournament berth dancing in their heads.

In order to make the tourney, they’re going to need to log wins against teams like the Northwestern. The Wildcats, as it happens, are also 10-5 and 1-1.

The big difference between the two teams is that the Huskers were picked to finish at or near the bottom of the league. Northwestern was expected to compete for the conference title.

Now that the season is here, the two teams have steadily moved towards each other in terms of expectations. Both teams need a win on Tuesday.

Both teams can consider a win a “quality” win. Nebraska and Northwestern truly are mirror images of one another.

Perhaps the most shocking fact of the 2017-2018 season is the Huskers likely have a better resume. They have a win over Boston College, a win over #14 Minnesota and an almost win over Kansas.

Northwestern’s biggest win is against Ilinois. This is why the Huskers have more on the line against their mirror image.

If Nebraska wins on Tuesday night, it’s about more than being 11-5 and 2-1 in conference. It’s about taking one more step towards the Big Dance bubble.

Both teams have four players averaging double-digit points per game. The good news for Husker fans is their team likely has more depth.

What the Cornhuskers don’t have yet is consistency. Their performance against Stetson left something to be desired.

Their performance against Delaware State wasn’t impressive. The Nebraska basketball team needs to find the energy it had against Kansas.

If they can play with that kind of intensity against the Northwestern Wildcats, then the two teams won’t be mirror images anymore. The Huskers will be the obviously better squad.
