Nebraska football isn’t in a bowl game. Is that worse than being Purdue in the Foster Farms bowl with terrible attendance?
While many Nebraska football fans wish the Huskers were in a bowl, any bowl this winter, it appears we have more proof there are far too many bowls as it is. The Purdue Boilermakers are the unfortunate victims of this realization.
Purdue is back in a bowl after years of terrible football. They’re squaring off against an Arizona team that missed the postseason a year ago.
You would think the two teams could get a contingent of fans to travel to Santa Clara and the Foster Farms Bowl. You would be wrong if you thought that.

As the game kicked off, Stewart Mandel snapped a picture of the crowd. Saying it was a crowd might be stretching it.
The picture showed an almost entirely empty stadium. It looked as if saying there were hundreds of people there might be a stretch.
While neither Arizona or Purdue are particularly close to Santa Clara, the attendance for this bowl is still embarrassing. Considering that Santa Clara is in Pac 12 territory, you would think Wildcats fans at the very least could be found in the area.
It doesn’t appear as though football fans of any kind could be found on Wednesday. Of course, fans in that region have been treated to very good football.

Fans who didn’t show up to the game ended up missing a shootout, at least in the first half. Arizona started off like gangbusters, taking a 14-7 lead. It was all Purdue after that, as the team took a 31-14 lead into halftime.
Those that showed up to the game got to see good football. It’s a safe bet the game would have been much better attended had the Nebraska football team been eligible to appear in the Foster Farms Bowl.
