The Nebraska football team lost another commit from its 2018 class on Saturday morning.

If the Nebraska football team doesn’t want to make the 2018 class a lost one, they need to hire a new coach quick. On Saturday Morning, Mario Goodrich announced he had reopened his recruitment.

Goodrich announced the decommitment on his official Twitter account, and thanked former Husker coach Mike Riley and defensive backs coach Donte Williams in his missive. While this doesn’t shut the door entirely on Goodrich coming back to the Huskers it does underline a growing problem.

The announcement by the defensive back comes just days after in-state commit Cameron Jurgens took an official visit to LSU.  The bleeding from the 2018 recruiting class has been going on before Riley was fired.

More from Nebraska Football Recruiting

Riley has now been officially gone for over a week and it feels like a month. Every day that goes by where programs like Florida, Texas A&M and Florida State either get their guy or are rumored to get their guy and Nebraska stays silent is bad for the program.

It’s hard to know just what’s going to happen if Scott Frost is indeed the man. He’s still going to have quite a bit of work to do.

Even if he is announced as the new Cornhuskers head coach later today that doesn’t immediately fix the 2018 recruiting class. It’s the beginning of the fix but far from the end.

The Husker recruiting class was off to a good start. Riley and company were staring the best class in years in the face.

Next: Huskers’ backup plan if Scott Frost says no?

Should Scott Frost be the man we hope he can be, he’s going to need to tap into that recruiting magic. The question of course, is whether or not someone like Mario Goodrich is going to need Donte Williams back. Hopefully he’s more committed to the Nebraska football team than a coach.
