3. Nebraska (3-0, 0-0)

The Nebraska Cornhuskers’ program might not be all the way back, but it took a big step in its win over then 22nd ranked Oregon. The Huskers started the year with blowout wins over Fresno State and Wyoming, but there was some doubt about the team despite those wins.

More from Big Ten News

Part of the problem was the Cornhuskers started off slowly in both games and didn’t really run away with the game until the 4th quarter. Against the Ducks, it was a slugfest from beginning to end, but the Huskers ended up outplaying the Ducks thanks in large part to the gritty performance of Tommy Armstrong.

While the Husker defense had problems against the run, they shut down the Oregon passing game. In their other two games, the defense has looked stout for the most part and the offense has shown it can move the ball through the air and on the ground.

Some Michigan State and Wisconsin fans are going to claim they should be ranked higher than the Huskers in the Big Ten power rankings but I don’t see it. NU has a win against a Top 25 team and two blowout wins over two FBS opponents on their resume. Neither the Spartans or the Badgers can say the same.
