Nebraska Basketball: Athlon Names Huskers Preseason No. 11

Yes, you read that headline correctly. It’s not an official poll, but regardless, Athlon Sports has ranked Tim Miles’ Nebraska basketball team No. 11 in their preseason Top 25 according to Inside The Hall.

Five other Big Ten teams make appearances including Wisconsin (2), Michigan State (14), Ohio State (20) and Michigan (23).

The publication also picks Nebrasketball to finish No. 2 overall in the Big Ten behind the Badgers.

Is the ranking a little high? Is it far too high? Here’s a better question: who cares if it is?

Miles has Nebraska roundball on a roll. He locked up the services of former Kansas Jayhawk guard Andrew White III. He has a four-star, top 100 prospect in Glynn Watson who wants to be part of what he’s cooking up.

Several Husker fans are looking forward to basketball season just as much as they were football season.

Why? Last season was fun, the Huskers won and the momentum has only continued to build.

Maybe Nebraska ends up No. 11 in the actual polls and the cries of “ov-er-rat-ed” echo from the college basketball landscape, but would it surprise you if the Big Red finished inside the Top 25?

Now ask if you thought you’d even be considering that idea a few short years ago. Perhaps Athlon just wants to capitalize on the frenzy being built in Lincoln.

Then again, maybe its writers believe in Nebrasketball just as much as its fans do.

Either way, Miles’ crew is earning massive respect and at a far faster pace than anyone could’ve imagined.
