Nebraska football commit Trae Taylor is one of the biggest gets of the Matt Rhule era on the recruiting front. On Friday night, the Carmel Catholic quarterback started his junior season and once again showed why Husker fans are so excited to see him lace it up for NU.
Taylor's 2024 season saw him throw for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while also running for just over 340 yards. This year, he wants to improve on those numbers, as well as improve on his high school's 3-6 record a year ago. So far, so good as he led Carmel Catholic to a 52-13 victory in the season opener against Grayslake Central.
Trae Taylor is one of Matt Rhule’s biggest recruiting wins for Nebraska football
The Nebraska commit truly led his team to a win as he put up eye-popping numbers in the first game of his season. Taylor completed 12-of-13 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns in just over a half of play. He was removed from the game early in the third quarter because his team was rolling to a blowout win. He added 49 yards on 4 carries on the ground.

After the game, Carmel Catholic head coach Jason McKie heaped praise on Taylor, pointing out that his work ethic is that of someone who still needs to prove himself.
"He is working like he hasn’t committed anywhere. That is just who he is. He is going to continue to work like he doesn’t have anything. If you want to be great, that’s how you have to approach it."
The quarterback also showed he's someone who will spread the praise around. He talked about his protection, as he had plenty of time to find the open man, over and over.
"O-line is doing great," Taylor said. "I mean they have been doing great all summer, and in camp. I just have to take advantage of it."
It should be a big season for Trae Taylor. The Nebraska football commit could raise even more eyebrows. And make Husker fans even happier, he'll someday be playing football in Lincoln.
