The Nebraska football team is expected to have a huge June on the recruiting front. However, while the Huskers have already nailed down two commitments in the 2026 class, on Tuesday, they lost one of the best recruits in their class in CJ Bronaugh.

The 4-star safety had hinted for a while that he was not signing with the Cornhuskers when December rolled around. However, Matt Rhule and company were working their butts off to get him to stop reconsidering his commitment

While Bronaugh’s decommitment was a massive bummer, especially with as hard as the team has worked to keep him in the fold, Nebraska football quarterback commit Trae Taylor tried to rally the troops and make it clear that while the loss of Bronaugh is significant, it’s not a real setback for the Cornhuskers. They’ll find someone else to take the defensive back’s place in their class.

“Well the negative we lost a stud player and hope nothing but the best for CJ,” Taylor started his post on X, making it clear he wasn’t going to say anything negative about the guy he hoped would be a Nebraska teammate. “Positive our staff is finding the right talent that we are having the so called big schools jump in late.  Nothing but confidence We will go find another great CB for Husker Nation.”

It also says something that Taylor seems to know that the Huskers are currently not among the top schools when it comes to getting the best recruits in the country. Instead, Rhule and his staff are still trying to build in that direction.

Taylor has been a leader since he committed to the Huskers. Not only has he been someone who has worked hard at peer recruiting, but he’s stepped forward as a voice of the program.

He’s doing this while still not being an official member of the Nebraska football team and will not be able to make things official until December 2026.
