Kalen Deboer missed the career advice unwittingly offered up by an ex-Nebraska coach

What a Nebraska football coach said earlier this year is now playing out for Kalen DeBoer

Over the course of his career, former Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost has said a lot of silly, nonsensical things. He's also blamed anyone and everyone for his failures. However, there is one thing that the current UCF coach said that checks out and is something that Alabama head man Kalen DeBoer is learning is authentic. Guys shouldn't take the "wrong job" just because it's flashier or pays better.

Frost moved from his first stint with UCF to Nebraska thanks to a massive payday and the idea of turning a program around that had fallen on hard times since Tom Osborne left decades earlier. DeBoer left the Washington Huskies just months after he got them to the National Championship game. He followed Nick Saban, hoping to keep his dynasty going.

Why Kalen DeBoer’s move to Alabama is drawing Scott Frost to Nebraska football comparisons

Neither the former Nebraska coach nor the former Washington coach found success. Frost was fired after four seasons and change. DeBoer might not make it through his second season after a season-opening upset loss to Florida State, where the Crimson Tide were dominated from beginning to end.

CBS Sports' John Talty certainly believes DeBoer took the "wrong job." So does former Maryland Terrapins chief of staff, Brian Griffin. He spent a week with Deboer and his assistants when they were all in Washington.

"I don't even know if those guys knew what the word pressure was," Griffin said. "I think they were living this fantasy of here we are, we're going to win games, let me show you the locker room, everything was so casual and peaceful. I remember thinking to myself, 'God, these guys got it great.' There's no pressure here."

Then they went to Alabama. There's certainly pressure in Tuscaloosa. It might be a shame that Frost didn't offer up his comments before DeBoer took the job. He thought he could do it just like the former Husker star did.

It doesn't appear either was right. Scott Frost had to sit out several years after the Nebraska football team fired him. Kalen DeBoer has to hope that doesn't happen to him.
