Scott Frost could amazingly be returning to his 'National Championship' roots

Is Scott Frost really going back to UCF? It seems like the former Nebraska football coach could really be a target.

When I first saw the news that UCF was on the lookout for a new head coach, I, like just about everyone in the sport thought “wouldn’t it be funny if they hired Scott Frost back?” I didn’t realize that if enough people had that thought, apparently they could will it into existence, but it’s looking more and more like the former Nebraska football head coach could be headed back to the place that put him on the map, and led NU to make costly mistake.

Could UCF really be looking to move backwards and rehire someone who had some success thanks in large part to the Knights being a big fish in a small pond? According to Mike Farrell, not only is Frost among a list of contenders, he’s one of the top targets.

This isn’t the first opening where the ex-Nebraska football coach has gotten some mention. But Florida Atlantic wisely passed him up. UCF might not make the same smart choice. Farrell says the two sides have been talking.

According to Farrell, it appears at least part of the reason UCF is talking to the man who won them their very mythical National Championship, is because it’s believed he wouldn’t demand anywhere near the kind of money he got from the Huskers.

“I know for fact the AD has reached out and had conversations with him. And he’ll come cheap, which UCF needs,” Farrell’s source reportedly told him.

It is worth pointing out that while Frost is on the list of candidates, he’s not the only one Farrell’s source thinks could be in the running.

“Like many others, I think UCF would love to take a run at (Jon) Sumrall. UCF AD has Kansas ties too. (Andy) Kotelnicki possible.”

Nevertheless, this opening is one for Nebraska football fans to keep an eye on. If for no other reason than for the laughs.
