Here’s hoping Ryan Miret wasn’t the Florida prospect that Nebraska football assistant Philip Simpson was hinting at when he indicated the Huskers landed a player from the Sunshine State.

In reality, it seems likely that Miret was in fact, not the player Simpson was referencing, considering he coaches the linebackers and there is a player in Kamron Wilson that better fits the bill. However, there was hope Miret might end up being a package deal with his high school teammate. If that does happen, it’s not going to be this month.

Ryan Miret picks Ole Miss over Nebraska after surprise visit

On Monday, Miret announced he committed to Ole Miss, leaving the Nebraska football team, Georgia Tech, and Miami in the dust. The commitment was a bit of a surprise as the 4-star offensive lineman moved rather quickly after a surprise visit to see Lane Kiffin and company over Father’s Day weekend.

Miret is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound player from Miami. He is ranked as the No. 64 interior offensive lineman in the 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 94 player in Florida.

There were hints that Miret’s commitment was coming faster than people expected. Unfortunately, it felt like he might be pulling the trigger for the Cornhuskers. That was especially the case after his father seemed to hint at an NU lean.

The good news is that Matt Rhule and his staff have already reeled in two offensive line commitments in the last week. Rex Waterman committed at the end of last week and Hayden Ainsworth pulled the trigger on Monday, not long before Miret gave his pledge to Ole Miss.

June is still expected to be a massive month for the Nebraska football team recruiting-wise with several other commitments on the horizon and a few more monster visits next weekend. The aforementioned Kamron Wilson is just one of many talented Florida players Rhule hopes to score before the summer ends.
