One of the biggest gets in the transfer portal this winter for the Nebraska football team was offensive lineman Rocco Spindler. The former Notre Dame star came to Lincoln fresh off playing for the National Title. Because of that, some wondered why he chose to do so.

After all, when Spindler chose the Cornhuskers, he went from a school poised to compete for the National Title again to a program that had just had its best season in almost a decade. So why did he make the choice? The elder Spindler shed some light on his son's reasoning over the weekend.

Marc Spindler recently appeared on the Average Joe Sports Show and explained exactly why his son chose the Nebraska football program in the portal. The elder Spindler also said he believes the Huskers can be better than most expected if they stay healthy.

Why Notre Dame transfer Rocco Spindler thinks Nebraska is ready to win big

"I'm really optimistic that this team ... you have to get a little lucky. And if both of those things happen, they can develop the chemistry very quickly and get out of the gate in a fast start."

"You know, I can see them like very," Marc continued. "I don't even know if it's sneakily, you know, contending for a Big Ten championship. I just can see them really contending for it."

The Husker player's father then went on to explain why he thinks his son chose the school specifically.

"This is the reason why Rocco is there. He's there to win a Big Ten championship. You don't leave Notre Dame to play for a national championship, all that type of exposure, you know, just to go to a school to take a step backwards. So he's looking forward to an exciting year."

Considering that Rocco made very similar statements this spring, especially about how the talent levels at the two schools are surprisingly similar, it appears that Dear Old Dad knows what's in his son's heart.

Nebraska football fans should hope the entire Spindler clan is correct in their assessment. If they know what they're talking about, 2025 could be a ton of fun.
