The Nebraska football team is expected to have itself a big June, recruiting wise. It appears Matt Rhule and the Huskers have officially kicked off the festivities with the Tuesday afternoon commitment of Rex Waterman.
The Arizona offensive lineman has been looking in Nebraska’s direction for a few weeks now, but he officially becomes the first to pull the commitment trigger. His pledge could end up starting a bit of a tidal wave, especially as we move closer to the final weeks of June.
Rex Waterman commits to Nebraska after camp visit, opening what could be a busy June for the Huskers
“They’ve been on me since Day 1,” the 6-foot-5, 295-pounder told the Omaha World-Herald about his recruitment by the Nebraska football coaches. “They’ve just been really cool in this process, supporting me and giving me time.”
Thank you God, my family, my coaches, and teammates for making this all possible. I will be continuing my academic and football career at the University of Nebraska!! #Committed #GBR🌽@CoachMattRhule @DonovanRaiola @CoachCoeling @Holgorsendana @CoachDixonDBs @swoll1 pic.twitter.com/TKPs1XMmcF

Waterman was in town for a camp this past weekend that has gotten plenty of rave reviews, both from other recruits and from national media. Earlier last week, he talked about how he wanted to use the visit to see how he fit in with the culture of the Nebraska program.
It’s safe to say he saw an obvious fit. That’s despite teams like UCLA putting on a full-court press in recent days.
The 3-star offensive tackle out of Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) pulled the trigger with the Huskers after taking official visits to UCLA (now a Big Ten rival, marking another reason this is a big win), Boise State, and NU.
His commitment comes just a few days before he was expected to take his final official visit, to the Duke Blue Devils.
Waterman’s commitment comes amid several Crystal Balls and predictions of other big time commits the Nebraska football program is supposed to land this month. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if other pledges started pouring in.
