The Nebraska football team has officially kicked off what’s expected to be a significant June. The Huskers are hoping to land several recruits. There’s an expectation that Rex Waterman’s commitment earlier this week was the start of something bigger.

How might the Huskers turn one commitment into a flood? Waterman spelled it out when talking to Rivals about why he pulled the trigger for the Cornhuskers. The Arizona offensive lineman said it all came down to feeling he fit better in Lincoln than anywhere else, especially UCLA.

Rex Waterman dubs Nebraska the perfect fit as Huskers chase a June recruiting wave

Nebraska is the ideal place that I would thrive in,” the newest Nebraska football commit said not long after giving his pledge.. “Meaning that the people and coaches I will be surrounded by are like-minded and have the same goals as I do.”

“Coach Rhule and Coach Raiola are two amazing people and coaches,” Waterman added. “They both care about their players on a personal level and have experience developing players.”

Waterman took official visits to Nebraska, UCLA, and Boise State. Duke and Arizona State were among other programs involved in his recruitment. However, the Cornhuskers stayed ahead of the race thanks to forging a real relationship with the 3-star prospect.

It’s clear the player especially struck up a relationship with the man who will be coaching him more directly in Lincoln. He and offensive line coach Donovan Raiola appear to have a friendship that the Bruins or anyone else could offer.

“It was fun talking to a family man, someone who can relate to normal people as well as football players. Just a very personable guy who knows how to talk to people. A good communicator."

The Nebraska football team’s coaches now move on to trying to complement Rex Waterman with many classmates. The offensive lineman is just the fifth commitment for the 2026 class. The Huskers need to ramp up quickly.
