The Nebraska Cornhuskers expect a very big June recruiting-wise, but that doesn't mean they'll only see positive news in the media. One negative that stood out on Tuesday afternoon was Illinois coming into the state and grabbing one of the better running backs in the 2026 class.

Nelsyn Wheeler of Millard South fame announced earlier on Tuesday that he committed to the Illinois Fighting Illini. The good news is that while Wheeler got several offers from Big Ten and Power 4 programs, the Huskers didn't really lose out in the fight. The running back didn't have an NU offer.

Still, the fact that schools are coming into the state and grabbing up some of the best in the class is not a great sign for the fight the Nebraska Cornhuskers will need to have in the coming years.

Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball adds another bat to the roster in Jett Buck

The Nebraska baseball team is rebuilding after losing nine players to the portal, and that rebuilding took a positive turn on Tuesday when the Huskers added what could be quite the power bat in Jett Buck.

He then spent two more years at Washburn as the everyday shortstop, where he clubbed 35 home runs and 30 doubles across 99 contests with 120 RBIs, 11 steals, and 22 errors. This spring, he was a Division II All-American this spring, hitting .365 with 21 blasts and 18 two-baggers.

Nebraska's June recruiting blitz starts in earnest with offensive line commitment

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule started what he hopes is a big June off the right way when he secured the commitment of 3-star interior offensive lineman Rex Waterman. The popular target comes by way of Arizona.

Waterman is expected to be one of several commitments the Huskers land this month. Several commitment dates are set for June 20 and other visits between now and then could mean quite the haul when all is said and done and the calendar turns to July. This is a pivotal time for the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they reload for 2026 and beyond.
