Nebraska football’s matchup against Illinois on Friday night is a big one. It’s the 400th consecutive sellout for the Huskers, and it’s a fight between two ranked teams who are both hoping they could represent the Big Ten in the college football playoffs.

It’s a massive game for the Matt Rhule era too as his squad started 3-0 this season after beginning his first campaign just 1-2. And it’s the first time the Huskers started off 3-0 since 2016, which is coincidentally the last time NU made a bowl game.

Knowing that it’s a very big deal for the Nebraska football program, and of course, knowing that a game on Friday night is rather unusual, the university took a very interesting step, of making sure that all classes are online and not in person.

It appears NU is making sure students have plenty of time to get ready for classes and also get ready for the game. And it should be pointed out that while the school is technically not canceling classes, one has to believe there will be more than a few absences.

Nebraska football program lauded for Friday class decision

It turns out the announcement, as things are want to do in the social media age, became quite a bit bigger as people from all over the country soon took notice. And to a person, those who saw the announcement seemingly loved the idea of changing up the class schedule for a Friday night game.

It's becoming a bit of a Nebraska tradition as this isn't the first time the school has decided to move to online classes for a big game.

Maybe Cardale Jones was right.

Other fans are hoping their own schools will pick up on this for their big games.

Nebraska is back.

The decision to take classes online only for the Friday before the big game is one that was definitely met with a healthy dose of celebrating by people all over the country, but it really is mostly about logistics.

Many Nebraska football fans will be arriving in Lincoln this afternoon and quite a few of them will head downtown, if not directly to the stadium hours ahead of time. The last thing anyone wants is campus overcrowded with kids trying to get home from classes clashing with fans trying to get to the game. So everyone wins.
