Nebraska football fans get surprise news on offensive lineman for Illinois game
Just a few days ahead of the biggest game of the year so far, the Nebraska football team got some very good news. The team will have one of its best and biggest offensive lineman available for the Illinois game.
Huskers head coach Matt Rhule had previously said that Micah Mazzccua would not be able to play against the Illinois Fighting Illini. He also had to sit out the game against Northern Iowa in a surprise move that first looked like a mystery injury.
The Nebraska football team will instead have Mazzccua as a weapon in its Big Ten opener. Though he won’t be starting as Henry Lutovsky - named the starter earlier this week - is still keeping that spot.
All of this has happened this way because the transfer offensive line has had some issues with his coaches. A suspension came against Northern Iowa and was extended vs the Illini originally. However, Rhule said Wednesday Mazzccua has been working on the undisclosed problem and making progress.
Nebraska football gets big offensive weapon back for Illinois
On the one hand, getting the big offensive lineman back is a massive win for the Cornhuskers, who will face off against easily the best defense they’ve seen this season. Despite getting only a 69 pass block rating by PFF, the guard is seen as being key to keeping quarterback Dylan Raiola upright.
On the other hand, this isn’t the first time that there’s been buzz about Micah Mazzccua suffering from off the field issues since coming to Nebraska.
The last time this issue came up was just ahead of fall camp. However, like it appears he’s doing now, he was able to get things figured out and made the starting lineup for the Cornhuskers first two games.
It appears for now, that this is going to be an ongoing issue this season. Of course, it’s possible that Mazzccua is on his final strike for the Nebraska football team. If he screws up again, he might no longer be a part of the program. For now, we can just be happy NU won’t be without one of its best offensive linemen.
