Nebraska Football: Troy Dannen dragged back into Washington mess

Troy Dannen left the Washington Huskies last month but the new Nebraska AD is likely going to have some legal issues back in Seattle dogging him for a while.

While Troy Dannen is busy trying to help Matt Rhule turn the Nebraska Football program around, it would be foolish to think the new Cornhuskers AD isn’t keeping one eye on his former school. That’s because the Washington Huskies have come under fire in the last few weeks for how they handled a player getting into some rather serious legal trouble.

Last week, officials in Seattle’s King County charged Huskies running back Tylin "Tybo" Rogers with one count of second-degree rape and one count of third-degree rape. The charges were for two separate incidents against two separate victims that occurred between October and November of last year.

When the allegations first surfaced, one detective wrote in court documents that Washington took Rogers off the travel roster for the Pac-12 Title game. The report by the detective did not say why the Huskies and head coach Kalen Deboer did it though and he was back on the roster during the team’s playoff run

When offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was asked about Rogers not playing the conference championship but coming back for their playoff games, he touched on the running back’s issues as “out of his control.”

“We're working through some things. Some challenges he had off the field. I can't comment on what t it was exactly, but Tybo's done a great job with being here, listening to directions, working through this moment, and being a good steward of the team. He's had a good attitude through this, and there are some things a little bit out of his control he is trying to work through, and we're trying to work with him."

Nebraska Football and its new AD avoiding the issue like the plague it is

The reason Rogers’ issues are coming back up, besides the fact that he was charged is because he was allowed to come back to the team after he entered the transfer portal on January 12. He left the portal and was welcome back by new head coach Jedd Fisch.

So now questions are circulating as to why Rogers was allowed back. Deboer was gone. It’s possible that Fisch didn’t follow the news closely enough to know why Rogers missed some time.

But Troy Dannen seemingly knew. It’s hard to imagine he didn’t.

For now, the Nebraska Football team has managed to avoid getting slimed by whatever is happening in Seattle. Rogers of course hasn’t been convicted of anything and that might in fact be the reason why the Huskies' leadership did what they did.

However, it likely won’t make Nebraska Football fans that happy to hear that Dannen refused to comment of any kind when he was asked about the situation last week. The new Huskers athletic director is likely going to have those questions come back as the case moves forward.
