Is the Nebraska football team in trouble when it comes to its 2025 quarterback recruiting? While some felt as though it definitely was not that long ago, it’s possible that was more about overreacting to some rather benign comments than anything else.

It was quite the coup when the Nebraska Cornhuskers landed the commitment of 4-star California quarterback TJ Lateef. It looked as though Matt Rhule was starting to see some real movement among the best of the best recruits. It wasn’t just that Dylan Raiola wanted to be a Husker because of his family ties. It was that Rhule had really pulled it off.

Then, people got nervous about Lateef's not being willing to say that he was shutting down his recruiting, even though he committed. However, it appears that people simply read too much into those comments. It’s possible that people also ignored Lateef's talk about peer recruiting in that same conversation.

Lateef talked to On3 earlier this week. He heard and saw the reactions to his comments. And he wants to make it clear that he is very committed to the Nebraska football team.

Nebraska football QB commit isn’t wavering the way fans think

“I am committed to Nebraska,” Lateef said on Wednesday afternoon. “There have been a lot of media trying to call me recently, but I am 100 percent solid to Nebraska.”

He also reiterated that where he goes to school is a family decision. And his family loves the decision.

“It was a family decision. My parents have bought shoes with the red “N” on them and other clothing. This was a decision by all of us for me to commit to Nebraska.”

TJ Lateef is so on board with the Huskers, as a matter of fact that he is trying to bring others to Lincoln. He’s said before he has Cortez Mills on speed dial. He’s also talked about trying to get Michael Terry on board. We’ll see whether he can be successful there. But what is clear is that Nebraska football’s worries over the 4-star quarterback and his commitment.
