While there’s a lot of excitement about the Nebraska football team entering the 2024 season, some worries have started to pop up as fall camp goes on. There was in fact so many worries that Huskers head coach Matt Rhule closed a practice right after his team scrimmaged in front of fans.

On Saturday, Rhule addressed some of the issues that have popped up. While talking about guys like Daniel Kaelin who have impressed, he also talked about some players who have still made mistakes they simply have to work out.

Those performances have some of the coaches looking at why people are contributing certain things. There’s some issues that the coaches are having. And it sparked Rhule to give his assistants a directive, “make sure we’re playing the right guys.”

Among the players that Rhule wasn’t happy about after a recent scrimmage was the second-string offense.

“They keep acting like they’re the second group,” Rhule said of the second-team offense. “And they’re supposed to act like they’re the first group… it’s that group, to me, OK, we need you guys to come along.”

On the flip side, Rhule said he saw lots of guys from the third team who were playing well. That’s one of the reasons he wants his assistants to give everyone another look. He wants everyone to see that just because they’re be on the second team, doesn’t mean they’ll stick there.

With less than two weeks to go before the regular season starts, everything is about to speed up. Nebraska football will have to figure out who needs playing time quickly.
