It seems like Daniel Kaelin is doomed to be the guy that Nebraska football fans continually overlook. His head coach thinks that’s a definite mistake.
In fact, during Saturday’s press conference, Matt Rhule talked glowingly about the other freshman quarterback, also an Elite 11 prospect in the 2024 class. While Raiola has impressed the coaching staff, Kaelin definitely has as well.
In fact, Rhule believes that at least two quarterbacks on the roster could eventually play in the NFL. Most coaches will say that about their players, but it hits differently when it’s a head coach who has actually played in the NFL, and not that long ago.
Nebraska football could have two NFL QBs on the roster
“He’s got it,” Rhule said during his presser. “He’s got quote-unquote ‘it.’ He’s got the ‘it factor.’ You know, I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, there’ll be a day you’ll look up and those two freshmen are both playing in the National Football League.”
“They’re both pro players and I think you heard that when the Big Ten Network came here and said it’s as strong a quarterback room they’ve seen. To me, the sky’s the limit.”
It’s worth pointing out that Rhule claiming the Big Ten Network was also impressed by Kaelin helps his case. It’s not just him saying that Kaelin has the same kind of future as Raiola.
Nebraska football freshman making strides since the spring
It’s also worth mentioning that Daniel Kaelin didn’t look “bad” during the spring practice sessions, but he was also clearly behind the other quarterbacks. That would seem to indicate that he’s made some real strides this summer and early in fall camp.
That’s only good news for a Nebraska football team that at times didn’t look like it had any real quarterbacks on the roster. If the Huskers suddenly have too many, there isn’t a single person in Lincoln who would be unhappy with that. The real question now is whether or not we’ll get to see what Kaelin can do this season.
