Nebraska football's roller coaster ride with top WR target hits a low
As is the case most years, at some point, Nebraska football recruiting can resemble one heck of a roller coaster ride. It seems like there’s always one recruit, especially that takes the Huskers' on some high highs and some low lows.
This year, said recruit is 4-star wide receiver Cortez Mills. The Florida prospect is one of the most sought-after players in the state. And at one time or another, he’s seemed like a heavy lean towards the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The latest ride on the roller coaster once again seems to have the Nebraska football team on the down side. And with Mills’ recruitment likely coming to a close soon, it certainly appears the ride is almost over.
Nebraska football loses momentum with 4-star Florida wide receiver
The Homestead, Florida wide receiver recently spoke to Rivals about where his visits go and Husker fans aren’t going to like how little he talked about his relationship with a school that looked like his landing spot just a month ago.
In fact, it looks as though NU simply isn’t anywhere hear front of mind for Mills, unless he’s doing one of the biggest rope-a-dopes of the 2025 recruiting cycle.
“Oklahoma, Clemson, and LSU, those were some standout visits to me. The reason they were standout visits is because they treated me like family. I felt like I was at home. It was just all great atmospheres. Great environments.”
One of the interesting tidbits of those comments from the 4-star prospect is a person close to Mills came out last week and claimed he wasn’t looking toward the south. They even specifically said that South Carolina (where Clemson is located) was out of the running.
At the time, it was thought that meant only Nebraska football and Oklahoma were still in the running. His most recent comments seem to illustrate that this is not the case at all.
It’s certainly possible Husker fans could be in for one more climb up the roller coaster track, but the Huskers being left out of the top teams yet again by Cortez Mills indicates the race for them is over.
