Nebraska football still on path to bowl game and Top 25, says Joel Klatt
There are a lot of reasons for Nebraska football fans to be disappointed after Friday night’s loss to Illinois. However, it’s important to note that with the Huskers sitting at 3-1 and Purdude on the schedule next, the season is far from over.
The goal entering the season for the Cornhuskers was to get to six wins and maybe finish in the Top 25 when the smoke cleared. Both those of those goals are still very much in range for a team that some thought might be 7-0 heading to Columbus.
Count analyst Joel Klatt among those who believes the Nebraska football team can still do a lot of good things. He’s also among those who doesn’t believe fans should turn against the Huskers even if they lost to the Illini.
Klatt said as much when he was asked about the Huskers’ prognosis following the loss on Twitter. It’s clear the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback likes what he sees from Matt Rhule’s squad, even if they’re 3-1 instead of 4-0.
Nebraska football still headed for a bowl game
Klatt was asked on Saturday whether he thinks that Nebraska was overrated and that’s why they lost the home game, or whether Illinois is underrated and just a really good team this year.
“More so Illinois underrated…” Klatt responded. “I thought their game plan was terrific on offense and QB were terrific...Nebraska made too many mistake and the miss from Raiola late down the middle was tough...They will be fine and a top 25 team”
Klatt’s words come as some Husker fans are starting to panic a bit. More than one has gone on social media to claim that NU is actually bad and were helped by a weak early season schedule.
While it’s true that Matt Rhule’s squad hasn’t beaten any juggernauts, Colorado, for one continues to look like a team that will at least contend for its own bowl game thanks to a comeback win over Baylor.
Nebraska football has a chance to still be 6-1 when they head to Ohio State. Even if they’re 4-3 going into that game, a bowl game is still in sight. As Klatt pointed out, it’s possible some Husker fans just need to adjust their expectations.
