The latest news out of Ann Arbor isn’t likely to make Nebraska football fans shed a tear. It appears that the Michigan Wolverines have parted ways with running backs coach Mike Hart.
Eleven Warriors circulated a report from The Detroit News that Hart isn’t coming back for the 2024 season. That despite the fact that under his tutelage, UM had one of the most punishing running attacks in the sport.
What is even more noteworthy about this report is that it doesn’t appear Hart’s departure was his choice, though the word “fired” hasn’t been used around Michigan circles just yet. Most reports cite a willingness by new head coach Sherrone Moore to allow Hart’s contract to expire on January 10.
It’s unclear why it took nearly two months for news of Hart’s departure to become public. Though the Wolverines gearing up for spring practice likely forced the program to confirm talk that floated around the team for several weeks.
At the moment, it’s not clear who will replace Mike Hart as the running backs coach for the Nebraska football Big Ten rival. It’s also worth noting that he hasn’t been linked to any other college or professional jobs since leaving Ann Arbor earlier this winter.
Hart was the Wolverines' running backs coach the past three seasons, serving as the team's run game coordinator the past two. Blake Corum was a two-time All-American while Hassan Haskins also earned second-team All-American honors in his tenure.
Nebraska football rival loses another link to Jim Harbaugh
Since National Championship winning coach Jim Harbaugh left the Wolverines, things haven’t been all that rosy for Moore. only four members of Michigan’s 2023 coaching staff are returning for the 2024 season. That number includes Moore who was promoted from offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
Nebraska football won’t face the new look Michigan staff in 2024, unless they meet in the Big Ten Championship. However, Sherrone’s squad will journey to Lincoln in 2025.
