Editors Note: Not long after this article was published, Coleman tweeted a follow up clearing things up. "To clear things up I have no intention of entering the portal. I am only speaking about the future of Nebraska Football. If you really want to know what this program means to me, check my pinned tweet," he wrote

Just a few days removed from the Nebraska football spring game, it seems there's little that could happen that would spoil the good mood around Lincoln. After all, star quarterback Dylan Raiola played even better in his first big scrimmage in front of fans than people thought he would.

A receiver corps that was a big question mark coming into 2024 showed out. They blew people away. They had long reception after long reception. There's a feeling of optimism around the program that actually seems founded in reality this time. That' a bit of a rarity in Lincoln.

So what could ruin the mood? What could be a bump in the road that would cause Husker fans to not feel quite so good about things? How about a very popular wide receiver who many feel is due for a big season leaving the program and entering the portal? Yeah, that could do it.

And that's why a post on social media by Malachi Coleman has the entirety of Nebraska football fandom more than a little worried.

Coleman posted a simple picture with no accompanying caption that was plenty cryptic. The post said simply "trust in new beginnings." The letters were on a background that looked as though it was supposed to be an old piece of parchment.

It was the "new beginings" post on the last day that a player can enter the transfer portal this spring that has Nebraska football fans on edge. Though it's possible that he could simply be talking about the fact that he had to sit out the spring with an injury, and he's about ready to start working out and getting ready for the season.

Because he didn't elaborate, imaginations ran wild.

One Twitter user pointed out that his likes on Twitter seemed to be positive towards Nebraska football. And the last one of those was from just a few hours before the post in question.

Opposing teams' fans were positively giddy, with one claiming a mass exodus was happening, despite only one Nebraska football player currently in the transfer portal.

One fan did point out that Malachi Coleman's pinned post on Twitter still talks about how important it is for him to stay home. That might be the biggest sign at all that his post is being taken the wrong way.

One way or another Nebraska football fans will find out soon. Tuesday is the last day that a player can go into the portal. However, there can be a little delay in a player showing up there. It could be as late as Friday to find out, assuming that Coleman doesn't clear things up himself.
