One year removed from the Nebraska football team, both losing quite a few players to the transfer portal and bringing quite a few players from other schools, neither is really happening in Lincoln this year.

The Huskers have seen a few players step into the portal, though most of them are guys who haven’t really seen the field since coming to Nebraska. That includes defensive back Javier Morton, who was among the first to enter once the portal opened on December 4.

Just a couple of weeks after deciding to leave Lincoln, Morton has found his new home. He’s decided on one of the more stories programs in the FCS. One of the most well known HBCUs in the country. Morton has landed at Alcorn State.

Morton announced his new school on social media the day after Christmas. The announcement tweet showed the former Nebraska football defensive back walking along in an Alcorn State t-shirt and had the caption “committed.”

Morton is now just the second Husker who has actually announced a new school since entering the portal. Tight end John Appleget is the second and he decided on Northern Illinois not all that long ago.

That leaves three Nebraska football players who have decided to transfer who are still looking for a new program. Two of those three are quarterbacks in Chubba Purdy and Jeff Sims. It also marks the second straight year that Matt Rhule has lost two QBs in one transfer class.

Nebraska football corner finds new team

The third player from Nebraska that has entered the portal and is still looking for a new team is defensive back Tamon Lynum. At the moment it doesn’t appear recruiting experts have an idea where he’s going.

Nebraska football hasn’t been active in grabbing transfer players either. So far they’ve only snagged defensive back Blye Hill. Though they recently entered the race for former Idaho linebacker Xe’ree Alexander.
