Nebraska football: Iowa fan dreams up perfect troll job of Michigan
Now that two of Nebraska football’s most hated rivals have something in common, it’s been interesting to see how each program has dealt with their cheating scandals. For instance, the Michigan Wolverines have followed the lead of their head coach in playing the victim and pretedning that Jim Harbaugh didn’t do anything wrong, despite the overwhelming evidence.
On the other hand, the Hawkeyes are seemingly handling Kirk Ferentz’s recruiting fairly well. The Iowa head coach actually owned up to the violation, apologized and is taking a one-game suspension. And that’s why Iowa fans joking about the situation and trolling Michigan fans to boot is so funny.
Not long after it was announced that the Nebraska football rival would be without its head coach and one assistant for Iowa’s season opener, Hawkeyes fans started to have a little fun with it. Including suggesting that they behave similar to how Michigan fans did last year when everything was blowing up in Ann Arbor.
Nebraska football rival fans start epic troll of Michigan
“We need to go full Michigan and pretend Kirk died,” Twitter user Adam s wrote on the social media site. “Make shirts, have Seth Wallace give a tearful interview after the game, punt on the first play of the game, things of that nature.”
It took no time at all for other Hawks fans to join in the fun.
“1st drive 3 and out running this play back to back to back,” wrote another user while showing a picture of Michigan players holding their fists up in unison as though they were protesting something.
“Tearfully running three straight outside zones to the short side of the field for no gain,” Adam replied.
“I’m down for punting to start the game,” yet another user posted.
All of these comments were in the service of one thing. The Husker rivals are dealing with their own coach missing a game that Iowa will win anyway. And they were poking fun at a team and a fanbase that have become insufferable to literally everyone.
By doing so, they also pointed out an oddity. Nebraska football will square off for a second straight season, against a team whose coach was suspended at least one game.
