Chase Loftin announced his future college on Saturday evening and it wasn't the Nebraska football team. The Millard South tight end announced that he was headed to the Florida State Seminoles instead of the Huskers.
It's not as though Loftin's choice was a total shock. There had been hints that he was leaning towards FSU for a while now. However, there was always a hope that he might eventually change his mind.
After all, before he'd started looking like a lean towards Florida State it was thought that the Huskers were safely going to land him. However, over the last few weeks, the Nebraska football team was losing ground pretty steadily.
Eventually the ground they lost was enough that he felt as though he could pull the trigger. And so he did. He pulled the trigger for Florida State and fans definitely had some thoughts about that.
Nebraska football social media reacts to Chase Loftin's FSU commitment
Chase's mom, Janelle made it clear that her son's decision wasn't an easy one, and that him picking the Seminoles wasn't a reflection on the Huskers so much as the job FSU did.
No one will understand how hard this decision was and every single school Chase was recruited by did such an amazing job. College coaches take so much time away from their own families and we are beyond thankful. @MizzouFootball @Huskers @AggieFootball Thank you! Class acts https://t.co/axw56WDtN2

Couldn't convince a Nebraska kid to stay
Nebraska couldn't convince a Nebraska kid to come to Nebraska a story as old as time. Well at least since 2010. https://t.co/PTQr5nyrx2

Sucks to lose top talent
Loftin officially committed to FSU. Sucks to lose top talent in state but not worried with the dogs we got in the TE room.

Another whiff? Not everyone was thrilled about this commitment.

Several players have left the state recently
A lot of elite HS tight ends have left the state over the last decade...Chase Loftin, excellent player, is the latest: https://t.co/7KzUhUR11h

The Nebraska football team lost out on another in-state player when it comes to Chase Loftin. When the smoke clears on the 2025 class, it could be that things have changed.
It doesn't feel as though the Huskers are completely done. They might have one more push in them. And the reactions to his commitment on Saturday shows why they might make at least one more push to bring him back.
