Nebraska football fans didn't need another reason to get excited about the upcoming season. There was already plenty of reason for optimism, what with Matt Rhule's second season and the arrival of 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola. And then Raiola's performance in the just-completed spring game.

Adding to the excitement of the 2024 season, NBC made a significant announcement on Monday. The Huskers' game against Colorado in Week 2 will be a rare prime-time matchup, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. This is a big deal, considering the Huskers usually have a whole day to prepare for any game. The Buffaloes, who have proven to be inexplicably formidable opponents since the rivalry was renewed, have only heightened the anticipation among the college football world.

It wasn't just Nebraska football fans who were excited after the announcement. There were plenty of people who don't have a dog in the hunt that were plenty excited when the news broke.

However, Nebraska football fans especially are fired up to welcome the Buffaloes to Memorial Stadium. It seems more than a little likely that the fans are seeing this matchup as a way to finally and completely announce that the Cornhuskers are back and ready to impose their will on the rest of the sport.

There's been plenty of bad football over the last few years. It's expected that the sleeping giant is finally waking in 2024.
