Ex-Nebraska football star loved Florida State's loss for one hilarious reason
Week 0 is officially in the books and that means that the Nebraska football coaches, players and fans are all turning their attention to the Huskers season opening game against UTEP. But before we completely move on from what was several very interesting games, let us revisit what Florida did, or didn’t do on Saturday in Dublin.
The Seminoles entered the day expected to win the ACC and make the playoffs in the first year that 12 teams are allowed in. They entered their contest with Georgia Tech as 10.5 point favorites and with a chip on their collective shoulders thanks to an undefeated 2023 regular season and being left out of the 4-team playoffs.
And then Florida State got outplayed for 3.5 quarters and lost to a Yellowjackets squad that went just 7-6 a year ago. The loss was an embarrassing one for head coach Mike Norvell. But it ended up bringing great joy to former Nebraska football kicker Drew Brown.
Ex-Nebraska football star has hilarious reaction to Florida State’s loss
“It feels so good knowing it’s not Nebraska that embarrassed themselves in week zero,” Brown wrote on Twitter.
It took no time at all for Husker fans to jump into the pile and make it clear that FSU blowing a lead and losing to an underdog in Dublin, Ireland was quite cathartic.
“Drew this game healed me a bit from our embarrassment,” one user responded to the former Husker kicker. “Just a Lil nit”
“Sometimes it the small things that brings a good mood,” another posted.
“I’m still embarrassed by that onside kick, though,” yet another poster wrote, bringing it back to the point of Brown’s comment in the first place.
While the kicker, who hit an insanely good 24-of-28 field goals in his final two seasons in Lincoln, didn’t spell it out, it’s almost certain he was referring to the last time his old school played a Week 0 game, in the same Aer Lingus series.
Scott Frost’s last team held a late lead against Northwestern, until he decided to kick an ill-advised onside kick that the Wildcats recovered, gained some momentum and stormed all the way back for a win. That victory was their only one of the 2022 campaign.
The loss was the beginning of the end of Scott Frost’s career with Nebraska football. He was fired a few weeks later after losing to Georgia Southern, in Lincoln.
