Nebraska football officially names both its starting corners for UTEP tilt
Now that fall camp has officially ended and the Nebraska football team is preparing for UTEP, Matt Rhule and his staff have started announcing various starters. The biggest and most obvious was quarterback Dylan Raiola earlier on Wednesday. Later in the day, it was the starting cornerbacks.
Tommi Hill was already locked in as one of the starting corners. After all, he's considered a possible first or second-round pick in next spring's NFL draft. While there was hope that Blye Hill might be ready for Week 1, it turns out he's not quite there. At least as far as starter goes.
Instead, the starting cornerback opposite Tommi Hill for the Nebraska football team will be Marques Buford. In a way, the announcement on Sports Nightly Wednesday night could the end of the road to redemption for the veteran defender.
Nebraska football names starting corners for season opener
Buford missed a large part of the 2023 season due to injury. He returned to the Huskers towards the end of the campaign and eventually saw 151 snaps.
In that limited time, his Pro Football Focus grade wasn't great (67.8) but certainly wasn't bad. Considering the late jump he got on the campaign, one would have to consider he had a fine 2023.
Now he'll get the chance to prove he belongs in a starter's role opposite one of the best corners in the sport. Among other things that likely means that Cornhuskers opponents will be throwing his direction over Hill's.
He's certainly going to be tested. Nebraska football coaches think he will pass those tests with flying colors.
