Nebraska Cornhuskers add a switch hitting slugger to 2026 class
Despite the 2024 season not ending the way the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team hoped it would end, there’s reason to be optimistic about the future of the program. One can even look at getting bashed out of the Gainesville regional as not all that bad considering the Florida Gators went on one heck of a run in the postseason.
Now Will Bolt and company are trying to reload and bounce back. The goal is not just to get back to the regionals but to get back to the super regionals. And then maybe even get back to some home games in the College World Series.
While he won’t be able to help the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team this coming season, a new commit for Bolt’s squad shows that the future is bright as well. Cooper Kardokus, a Top 10 prospect in the state of Oklahoma announced he’s joined the Huskers 2026 recruiting class.
The switch-hitting infielder could eventually play anywhere around the diamond while bringing what looks like quick twitch speed the Huskers would love to have in the middle of the order. He’s also thought to have an average exit velocity among the best for his age on both sides of the plate.

“They say they like the way I play and how I’ll fit with their system,” Kardokus said of Nebraska coaches to the Omaha World Herald. “They say I play the right way and super hard and all over the field.”
The Huskers wasted no time in trying to get the infielder into the program. They gave him an official offer August 1. That was the first day programs could contact 2026 players.
It appears that the Nebraska football team played a part in his commitment. He took an official visit to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball program on the weekend when Matt Rhule’s squad blew Colorado out of the water, 28-10.
