Overall, the 2024 season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team has to be considered a success. They made history in the Big Ten tourney and got back to the regionals for the first time in years.

If there was a downside to their postseason run, they didn't look quite ready for the big time after getting dominated by the Florida Gators. Granted, the Gators were a juggernaut that went to the College World Series championship.

NU baseball head coach Will Bolt wants to ensure the Nebraska Cornhuskers have plenty of experience against the sport's best teams this coming season. The program takes an "iron sharpens iron" approach with the 2025 schedule, loading up challenging non-conference games.

On Tuesday morning, NU announced a 56-game regular-season slate for 2025 beginning Feb. 14 at the MLB Desert Invitational in the Phoenix area and wrapping with a series at Purdue in mid-May. The home opener is March 5 against South Dakota State.

The biggest name regarding non-conference matchups has to be the Oregon State Beavers. OSU is a regional qualifier in 17 of the last 19 full seasons including three College World Series titles in Omaha. They finished last spring ranked No. 10 after a 45-win campaign. They'll square off against Nebraska from March 28-30.

Outside of that, the Huskers have plenty of high profile opponents including three games at Louisiana (Feb. 21-23) against the reigning Sun Belt champions. There's also the Frisco classic which will see the Cornhuskers face off against Sam Houston, Kansas State and Louisiana State.

We don't yet know who will be in the MLB Desert Invitational to open the season. Last year the teams weren't announced until January. However last year it included Boston College, BYU, Cal, Georgetown, USC, Grand Canyon, Ohio State and Kansas State.

After that round-robing tournament, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will take on Grand Canyon for the second straight year. GCU made a regional last year as well. All of this kicks off on February 14 and the season is rapidly approaching.
