It might surprise some Nebraska Cornhuskers fans but, after being cited for driving under the influence early Friday morning along with four other offenses, Harper Murray is still practicing with the Nebraska volleyball team this week.
NU assistant coach Kelly Hunter told the media on Wednesday that Murray is being supported and surrounded with help in the wake of her citation. The assistant coach pointed to Murray's youth as to why she's getting this treatment rather than a suspension from the team as other student athletes have done in similar situations.
“She's a young adult, a young child, who needs help, and so we're here to support her,” Hunter said.
Hunter was speaking at an event hosted by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Wednesday afternoon at the Lincoln Country Club. During her presentation, her comments about Murray were part of a bigger talk about how the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is trying to revamp its culture as it gets ready for next season.
“Our culture is our baby,” she said. “We're working on that every day.”

Speaking about culture and the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, this week, defensive backs coach Evan Cooper talked about some of the players that have stood out to him. Chief among them was Isaac Gifford, who came back for one more season this winter.
In speaking about Gifford, Cooper called the defensive back a "coach's dream." He also said that the rest of the country is about to see just how good the Nebraska Football player can be.
It might be hard to get a seat to Northwestern Football home games the next couple of seasons. That's because the Wildcats are going to be playing at their practice facility while they await their new stadium, which won't be ready until 2026.
Even more hints about NCAA Football 25 are dropping all over the country. Eagle-eyed fans are seeing posters that list who will be in the game for their respective teams popping up. So far, it doesn't appear Nebraska has gotten one of these, though we do know plenty of Huskers are in the game.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team suffered its third straight loss on Friday night and its second straight Big Ten loss as it blew a 6-2 lead to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. They allowed 3 in the ninth and then one in the 11th to get the loss. The Huskers were the hottest team in the conference this time last week. Suddenly, people are once again getting nervous about whether or not Will Bolt's squad can finish the season strong.
