One of the most refreshing things about the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is they just don’t tend to generate negative headlines. Even when the team loses in the national championship match, John Cook’s squad tends to breed optimism over pessimism. That’s why Harper Murray being in a spot of legal trouble is so striking.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star was reportedly cited for Driving Under the Influence very early on Friday morning. According to the Lincoln Police Department, the 19-year-old Murray’s blood-alcohol content (BAC) was more than double the legal limit.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, Murray was intoxicated enough that she had to be transported to a detox facility before she was cited and released. Because she is under 21, the Nebraska Cornhuskers Big Ten Freshman of the Year was also cited with Minor in Possession, reckless driving, possessing a fake ID, and obstruction of a peace officer.

Nebraska Cornhuskers star is in more than a little legal trouble

After being contacted by the media for a statement on the Harper Murray situation, the AD’s office issued the following statement:

“The Nebraska Athletic Department is aware of the incident. We are awaiting more information and will have no additional comment at this time.”

Murray, who also garnered third-team All-America honors could face some rather severe discipline, especially because John Cook’s squad is in the second week of its spring practices.

Up until Harper Murray’s issue on Friday, the biggest news around the team had been the fact that its spring exhibition match had sold out in about 45 minutes. Excitement surrounds the team once again despite losing several players to the transfer portal from the group that made a run to the championship game.

Now, the focus will turn to what punishment Harper Murray will receive and how long the Nebraska Cornhuskers could be without the outside hitter.
