Nebraska Cornhuskers fighting to finish with Big Ten rivals for top center
While the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is excited to see one of its newest big man additions shining in International play, Fred Hoiberg isn’t resting on his laurels. In fact, he’s working extra hard to bring some more talent with size to Lincoln in future seasons.
Those efforts include trying to pull Tommy Ahneman away from some of the best programs in the country. On that effort, so far, so good. After securing an official visits, the Huskers continue to be very much in the race with the next step having arrived this week.
According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Ahneman has narrowed his list of potential landing spots to five. The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball program is among those final five. NU is now in a fight to the finish with Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

The center, out of Cretin Derham Hall in Minnesota is widely considered the top player in the state and among the best centers in the class of 2025.
This past high school season, Ahneman won North Dakota Gatorade State Player of the Year while playing with his now-former high school, West Fargo. This AAU season, playing with Howard Pulley on the EYCL Circuit (the Nike EYBL secondary league), he averaged 20.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
Standing 6-foot-11 and weighing 235 pounds the big man looks every bit the part of someone who can bang it around down low with opponents in the Big Ten. He’ll almost certainly stick around his new home state, though there is a slim chance he could head to South Bend.
According to On3’s RPM, the Golden Gophers have a slight edge in landing Ahneman, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers are right in the fight, a close second.
