While the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team has turned the page to prepare for the regular season, Fred Hoiberg and his staff still focus on building for the future. The attempts to build recently included an unofficial visit by 4-star center Tommy Ahneman.

That visit, by the 6-foot-10 prospect, was so good, as a matter of fact, that he’s planning on coming back to Lincoln. When he does, the Cretin Derham Hall star will be on an official visit. And from there, who knows if Nebrasketball can get a commitment from the No. 9 center in the 2025 class?

The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team has been making some strides in high school recruiting over the last few months. Hoiberg and his crew have had a hard time bringing in genuine big men, but that could be turning around, if they can find a way to land Tommy Ahneman.

"Shoot, I want to get back in that uniform," the center told 247Sports. "I really liked the feel of it."

That’s the kind of thing you like to hear from a target. It’s the kind of thing that could mean, despite recruits often talking about how much they liked their visit, NU stood out. Setting an official visit for later this fall, while he was stil on his unofficial is another reason for Husker fans to be excited about this recruit.

Any edge Hoiberg and company can find is a plus, considering Ahneman is getting recruited hard by Power Conference squads.

Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin have all come calling, among others. The recruiting battle is definitely setting up to be a “who in the Big Ten wins out?” situation.

For now, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are in very good shape. They could in fact be the front runner. Now they’ve just got to press their advantage.
