Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball roll continues in series win
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are playing their best baseball of the Big Ten season at what would have to be described as the mot important time to do it. The Huskers took game two against the Michigan State Spartans using an offensive explosion with an 11-3 victory,.
That win follows what was a very impressive outing for Brett Spears, capping what has been an impressive campaign overall for the Cornhuskers ace. On Thursday night, Nebraska beat the Spartans 2-1 and needed every once of Spears' dominance in order to do it.
In the big win on Friday, Nebraska tallied 13 hits while getting another quality start from Mason McConnaughey. It's been a while since the Huskers have seen two very good starts from NU pitchers in consecutive games.
In Friday's game, McConnaughey went 5.2 inings and allowed 5 hit, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He finished off a 7-3 regular season with a 3.10 earned run average.
On the offensive side of the ball, Case Sanderson and Riley Silva both had three hit days while Cayden Brumbaugh, Dylan Carey and Josh Caron all had two. Caron and Carey each had homeruns for the Huskers as they stayed in the hunt for the Big Ten regular season crown.
Nebraska Cornhuskers keep on the lookout for conference title
The victory means that the worse the Huskers can finish would be second in the Big Ten. They also eliminated the Spartans from even playing in the Big Ten tournament. Meanwhile, NU is looking towards Friday night's tilt between Illinois and Purdue.
Should the Boilermakers pull off an upset, it would open a path for a first place finish for the Huskers should they win their final regular season game on Saturday.
The way the Nebraska Cornhuskers are finishing up their regular season, there's renewed hope for a deep playoff run once the postseason starts.
