The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team has managed to stay near the top of the country's baseball world despite the fact that the pitching staff has run into problems every now and then. However, the Huskers might have found someone who can help.

Mason McConnaughey pitched 7 shutout innings for Nebraska on Saturday in the Huskers 16-1 win over Rutgers that allowed them to break their longest losing streak of the season, a three game skid that had some Nebraska fans a bit nervous.

The win allowed the late entry into the rotation to improve to 4-2 on the year with a 2.29 ERA. The only pitcher on the staff that is having a better season is Brett Sears and his 5-0 record and 1.32 earned run average.

On Sunday, the Huskers will try and win their series over Rutgers without either on the mound. Should they do so, they'll move into a tie for first place with Illinois, who plays non-conference opponents this weekend. The Illini are currently 7-2 in the Big Ten and holds a half game lead on NU.
