Before the season started, one of the bigger questions about the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team, was who was going to make up the starting rotation. So far, the answer seems to have presented itself nicely. That starts with Brett Sears who has had two very good starts against teams that the Huskers can be quite excited they beat.
On Friday night, Sears threw another gem after already dominating the Baylor Bears the week prior. In that game, Sears went 5.1 innings, allowed just three hits and one earned run to give the Nebraska Cornhuskers a season-opening win.
This Friday night, Sears did even better, hurling six shutout innings allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out 7. That means on the season, he’s got 14 strikeouts in just 11.1 innings pitched. He’s looking like the ace the Huskers were not quite sure they had.
That Sears has pitched extremely well in two straight starts is just part of the reason why Will Bolt and company should be quite excited about the rest of the season. The Huskers are starting the season against “warm weather” teams that have definitely had the upper hand in previous years during the early months of the season. The outing lowered his ERA to 0.52 on the season.
Brett Sears just part of the story for the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team
When talking about questions regarding Will Bolt’s 2024 team, there were obviously questions about where the offense was going to come from after losing Brice Matthews and Max Anderson. So far, it’s come from different sources.
On Friday, it was catcher Josh Caron, who had the second multi-homer game of his career as he blasted two homers, including one absolute moonshot as he also drove in five runs.
In all, the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team collected 17 total hits and won their second straight after dropping two of three in the season-opening weekend. They’ll try to go for three in a row on Saturday night at 8pm central.
