While the Nebraska basketball team continues looking to rebuild its roster, there is one interesting option that just entered the portal. During last year’s attempt to put together a team that made it back to the tournament for the first time in a decade, even Fred Hoiberg didn’t win them all.

However, one of the players the Nebraska basketball team was a finalist for is on the hunt for a new team once again. Is it possible that the Cornhuskers have a second chance to land a big man that could at the very least add some depth to the bench? Would he be willing to come to Lincoln if that was his ceiling?

With five roster spots still open even with the recent commitment of Andrew Morgan, one has to wonder if Mongolian Mike aka Mike Sharavjamts might once again get a call from the Huskers. The San Francisco Dons forward entered the portal yesterday and could be a decent backup call for Nebraska.

Sharavjamts is the first Mongolian citizen to earn a Division I athletic scholarship. He was a 4-star recruit who eventually committed to Dayton out of high school. Last season, he transferred from the Flyers to the Dons, but Nebraska basketball was one of his final three choices.

Nebraska basketball could use another big man if Plan As fall through

Mongolian Mike didn’t exactly burn the house down when playing for San Francisco as he averaged just 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. On the other hand, those numbers are quite a bit better than what the Cornhuskers had from anyone backing up Rienk Mast.

Nebraska Basketball already has feelers out to several big men who would seemingly be bigger contributors in Pharrel Payne and William Kyle, though recently it’s felt as though the Huskers are trailing in pursuit of both those players.

On the other hand, early reports have Mike Sharavjamts returning to Dayton. This might be one situation to keep an eye on for Nebraska basketball in the next few weeks.
