Harper Murray might have taken out the frustrations of her entire offseason on the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday night. The sophomore outside hitter led her team in 20 total kills and 19 of those came in the final sets.
Those kills were about as important as they could possibly be considering that the Big 12 program gave the Huskers everything they could hand in a four set match. While NU wasn’t forced to go to a deciding 5th set, they won 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-13.
It was clear that towards the end of the night, TCU ran out of steam and it’s likely that Murray’s dominance around the net was a big reason why. Murray closed the door on the Horned Frogs in that final set by notching a whopping 7 kills.
Melanie Parra, a third-team All-American last season, led TCU with 14 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. However, while she played well enough, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team used the fourth set to take a quick lead of 11-5, and that lead allowed John Cook’s squad to get its offense back on track and eventually close out the match.
Nebraska Cornhuskers grit out surprisingly close match
After Nebraska opened the season with a four-set win over No. 9 Kentucky that clearly showed NU was the better team, they followed that up with a decisive win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday night.
Now sitting at 3-0 on the season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team will travel to SMU on Tuesday before coming back home for the Husker Invitational next weekend.
