Despite dominance, Nebraska football could actually be better in second half
Call me a glutton. I think Nebraska football could have actually made this game quite a bit worse than it is. It could also be quite a bit scarier than it is, if a few plays didn't go the Huskers way in the first half.
Yes, the score is 28-0 and it's fun to watch Colorado look as out of sorts as they are. But there were times when NU didn't look like it was executing all that cleanly, especially on offense. Against a Buffs defense that is constantly on its heels.
Keep in mind that without a Tommi Hill pick six and am 18-yard touchdown reception by Rahmir Johnson that absolutely should have been a Colorado interception, the score would be just 14-0.
Running into the locker room, Deion Sanders addressed the fact that he actually thought his defense was playing pretty well. At first glance, that comment drew quite a few scoffs, but he's not wrong.
Nebraska football needs to clean up offensive play and keep the foot on the gas
Yes, it feels weird to say that an offense that has 200 yards of offense and a quarterback who has thrown just three incompletions needs to do a little better. But they can.
First of all, they need to run the ball more. Really commit to the run game. There's been a few too many throws down field that have felt like throwing away a down. Let Dante Dowdell cook. Let's see if we can get a 100 yard rusher against this Colorado front.
The added bonus here is that it would run the clock more than it has. Keep in mind that Nebraska and Colorado each had two possessions at the end of the first half starting at about the 2:30 mark. Those possessions are just too quick.
Colorado has a good offense. The Cornhuskers have managed to knock it off course, but they still have Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The last thing we need to see is a game that's within one score in the fourth quarter.
Let this game continue to be a laugher. Let it be cathartic. And let Nebraska football make its case for a Top 25 spot come Monday.
